Land Rover: greener pastures

Personal Discovery

Okay.  I admit right up front:  No matta how ya cuts it baby, Ah luvs ma Rova Disco!

In fact, I've owned two Rovers.  The 1998, pictured to the right, and my current newer model.

I use it to lug my Sandpiper 565 sailboat, and my larger Bristol sailboat; and the little puppy drives and tows like a dream  ...more car-like than truck-like on the highway, the ride is smooth and effortless.

Lugging my 4200 pound 25 foot sailboat?  No prob.  The Rover's no slouch.  Up hill and down dale...doesn't even work up a sweat, even when loaded with gear.

And speaking of gear, the Discovery sports a low-gear adjustment; just the ticket when retrieving the boat from a launch ramp (and of course, the 4 wheel, all time drive train doesn't hurt either).

Did I mention car-like?  The interior oozes a luxurious feeling....okay...maybe not OOZES, but it's really comfortable, bright and airy.  Leather seats, a surround sound system and plenty of light from the dual sun roof arrangement and side roof ports give a sense of quality and relaxation.   Not too relaxed, though.  After all, it is a truck.

She's really reliable too....What??  Did I say reliable?  ...a British car "reliable"?  You betcha!!

LR's LINEAGE SPORTS A PEDIGREE SECOND TO NONE...but it hasn't always been easy!

The Discovery is just one model offered by Land Rover.

It all started way back in 1860.  But because there are so many models or versions of the Land Rover, which vary year to year, there are often only subtle differences between them.

VINTAGE ADS & PICS

I've always been one to admire and appreciate creative, simple thinking ...especially when it comes to product or service advertising.

  • Simple is effective.
  • Simple is clever.
  • Simple reflects a "no-nonsense" approach to things.

The Land Rover doesn't dissappoint.  I think these characteristics epitimize the Rover mystique..
